Woodstock School invites applications for the position of Chaplain, a unique opportunity to serve within our residential and internationally diverse school community in the Himalaya.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chaplain will provide pastoral care across the Woodstock community, working closely with students, faculty, staff, families and school leadership. The role calls for a person who is committed to serving others, nurturing spiritual life and contributing meaningfully to the mission and character of the School.

The Chaplain leads Woodstock School's spiritual life, balancing a steadfast commitment to the historic Christian faith with a spirit of openness and hospitality toward individuals of all faiths or none. Guided by Our Calling, the role nurtures the school's identity as a daring, whole-life educational community where character, service, compassion, and generosity shape daily life. The Chaplain focuses on Christ's transformative message within an international boarding context.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Visionary Leadership: Custodian of Woodstock's Christian identity and Religious Life Policy, integrating faith and values into school life, residences, assemblies, retreats, and community practices,
  • Pastoral Care: Serves as a trusted source of guidance and support for students and staff, prioritizing wellbeing, crisis response, and restorative conflict mediation.
  • Spiritual Life: Organizes chapels, assemblies, retreats, and Bible studies; oversees voluntary Christian activities.
  • Formation & Community Life: Collaborates with leadership, residences, counselling, health centre, and faculty to support whole-person student formation.
  • Community Advocacy: Acts as an advocate for school values; serves on the leadership team in an advisory, non-disciplinary capacity.
  • Educational Support: Orientates new staff to spiritual foundations; may teach Religious Education if qualified

 REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Master's degree in Divinity, Theology, Counselling, or related field
  • Experience: 5+ years in pastoral leadership, chaplaincy, or student wellbeing or counselling (international boarding school an asset)
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to provide faith-informed support in a manner that respects individual beliefs and backgrounds; expertise in youth ministry and crisis intervention.
