Beyond Borders Day of Prayer

“To serve the people on the move (refugees) is not a job. It is a Kingdom mission. It is a calling,” is how Pastor Prosper challenged us during our weekly prayer time on Friday, June 26th. Liz Steggall-Lewis, Director of Beyond Borders, TeachBeyond’s refugee program, led the prayer meeting for World Refugee Day. Pastor Prosper is originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He fled eastward and now is seeking asylum in another African country. Along the way, he was introduced to a TeachBeyond member from France.
Other special guests sharing in the prayer meeting were Savvas Emmanouilidis, a Beyond Borders Advisor, Moses Chot Jock, who grew up in an Ethiopian refugee camp after fleeing South Sudan, and Faten AlFaraj, filmmaker of the documentary, “Lifejacket,” about life as a refugee, as seen through the eyes of the children, which was filmed on Lesvos.
Pastor Prosper emphasized that God is a God of movement. Throughout the Bible we see He moves with people when they move. “God in Christ was the incarnate mover,” he said, “and He remains Emmanuel even in the displacement of His people.”
Approximately forty people joined online to pray for the more than 80 million refugees around the world.
Another World Refugee Week event saw twenty-five Beyond Borders staff attend a virtual screening of the film, “Lifejacket,” on Saturday, June 27th. They got an advanced look at the finished movie, having been on the island of Lesvos when it was filmed. The movie event was also a reunion for the first rotation of workers to Lesvos. They took time to reflect and pray after the movie. Beyond Borders hopes more screenings will be possible in the Fall for a wider audience. Life Jacket Video
